History of the Atlantic Neptune

A detailed description by R Lingel in the Bulletin of The New York Public Library of Des Barres’ Atlantic Neptune from the files of Fr Charles Brandt. The document highlights the amount of research that was completed on some of the more famous antiquities that he restored. One also begins to gain an appreciation of how important some of these maps were in facilitating the waves of immigration that populated North America.

A page from the Atlantic Neptune showing Halifax Harbour in the late 1700’s which includes a coloured view of the harbour from the sea.
