Moratorium on Oyster River

One of Charles earliest environmental campaigns, this story of where Charles began to develop his own style of writing letter to the newspapers. The struggle with the proposed Pacific Playground development at the mouth of the Oyster River was particularly challenging. One can already see that Charles’ biology degree was already leading him to make use of the science and the opinions of experts found in engineering reports and environmental studies. As a scientist, Charles was also becoming adept at recognizing weaknesses in that data that informed the scientific opinions.
