A beautiful video produced by dear friends of C Brandt – the volunteers and staff of the Comox Valley Land Trust.
The Comox Valley Land Trust holds a Covenant on C Brandt’s 27 acres protecting the land and hermitage in perpetuity.
Quotes:
“We need to enhance the natural world….in caring for the natural world…it will care for us.”
“We have to see the natural world. We have to see that it is there and experience creation with a sense of wonder and delight rather than a commodity for our own personal benefit. We’ve disparaged our rivers our forests, so we want to restore that dignity. Give it back their original dignity.”
“So what we have to do, we have to really fall in love with the natural world and we do that by realizing that the earth is really a sacred place. Only a sense of the sacred will save us. If we fall in love, we’ll realized its sacred and that’s going to save us.”
“Find somebody that really loves the naturally world and become their friends or become part of an organization so that you see the natural world to become affiliated with people who already appreciate the natural world.”
“We have to see the natural world have to fall in love with the natural world and realize that the natural world is a sacred place and only a sense of the sacred will save us.”
2019 Father Charles Brandt Covenant – Produced by Comox Valley Land Trust – Transcript
Charles: I think the river is conducive to a contemplative life. There is flow. There is movement. There is sound. When I first came out, I was about the only person here. This would have been you know, 50 years ago. There is a ridge trail that goes down to the bottom part of the property. I think that’s my favorite area.
I want to give it as much protection as possible. I want it to last forever. The covenant protects it almost absolutely against any kind of encroachment – real protection. So I feel good about that. I feel as much as I can do that is as much as I can do for the land.
With the covenant it can never be logged, it can never be subdivided but with the Park it means that more people can enjoy the land so there will be trails so that they can walk and care for the land.
We have to see the natural world. We have to see that it is there and experience creation with a sense of wonder and delight rather than a commodity for our own personal benefit. We’ve disparaged our rivers our forests, so we want to restore that dignity. Give it back their original dignity.
So what we have to do, we have to really fall in love with the natural world and we do that by realizing that the earth is really a sacred place. Only a sense of the sacred will save us. If we fall in love, we’ll realized its sacred and that’s going to save us.
So the earth has to enhance us and we have to enhance the natural world or we’ll perish, you know. So I think just by living here I see that its over a period of time that’s how we have to go. Not putting down the natural world, but caring for it. It’ll care for us if we care for them.
Find somebody that really loves the naturally world and become their friends or become part of an organization so that you see the natural world to become affiliated with people who already appreciate the natural world.
We have to see the natural world have to fall in love with the natural world and realize that the natural world is a sacred place and only a sense of the sacred will save us.
I am Father Charles Brandt, a hermit, but I think of myself as Charles. Most people call me Charles.
