Charles was involved in the discussions and implementation of a long list of acid and leachate mitigation strategies that failed. These failed experiences led to the evolution of effective and industry wide standards for acid and leachate mitigation measures that spread across Canada. The impact of the Mt Washington experience was instrumental in building the science now used to protect fish habitat near mining projects and developments around the world.
